Good Evening “VELT 80”:
As we close out the first month in 2018! We’re thankful, that it came in with less than a roar like 2017; however, it saddens us to have ended 2017 with the passing of another classmate, Paul Hyde. Please continue to keep Paul‘s family in your prayers as well as other classmates who have lost family members, loved ones or dear friends. Should you become aware of the passing of a classmate or their immediate family member, please contact a member on the committee, so that we can obtain authorization from the family and distribute the information as quickly as possible through the available communication channels we have established.
We are two years away from the 40th Reunion, and with that being said, we urge you to start sending in your class dues. We have not increased the dues in the past 38 years, although, everything around us has. Its $50 ($10 a year) and if you’ve already paid, thank you. I know some are wondering why we still have class dues. Well, it’s simple – we don’t have the seed money for the expenses which are incurred at each reunion for your entertainment i.e., deposits for facilities, food, logistics, etc., and the dues have historically been the seed money. In spite, of our efforts to host various fundraising events, it’s never enough. Those that pay their dues receive some kind of consolation (a gift or reduced fee). In addition, the dues help keep the cost for each member at a minimum. We need you to step up to the plate and not wait until the very last minute. The more we have in the pot, the better we can plan. I realize that some of us are still trying to recover from holiday expenses. So, if you need more time - make your payment by spring! Even, if you can’t pay the whole amount, make an effort to pay half. Come on class, we can spend $25.00 on the cost of one evening out on dinner for ourselves! Please send payment to Jeffrey Hughes, 5400 Maryland Street, Merrillville, IN 46410 payable to Roosevelt Class of 1980.
There are a couple of ideas on the table for the 40th which includes a possible Masquerade Ball and a Murder Mystery Dinner with the dress attire in the 40’s/50’s. Do you have any suggestions? If so, please feel free to leave your feedback or contact any committee member. Your thoughts are always welcomed and will be considered. Don’t wait until it’s too late to voice them.
We will continue to sponsor events throughout the year to raise funds, but we need your participation to make it successful, especially those that are locally. The Casino trip was a success and we are planning another one – sometime in the spring. The annual picnic has been reserved and will be held again, at Riverview Park in Lake Station, July 21st, therefore, mark your calendar. We need you to become more engaged and support your class in whatever way possible. For those that are not local, a small donation will be helpful, whatever we host incurs upfront fees – unless we are just having a gathering at a particular place to mingle, and in that case, we don’t have to pay for the location, security, food or a DJ!
With that being said, come on “MIGHTY VELT 80” and get this together. We may be older, but we are still a mighty class. Engage yourself, whatever, way possible! We have a vast amount of expertise across our class, share it so we can continue to flourish and let’s make 2018 a successful year.
In closing, we have three (3) new members that have joined the committee; Darrell Comer, Jeffrey Lipscomb and Michael Young. Welcome aboard guys!
May God continue to Bless each of you.
